Record Store Day was established in 2007 as a means for independent record store owners to promote their businesses and unique culture. Each year, exclusive CD and Vinyl releases are produced solely for the event as shops across the globe host artist performances and other activities.
The first official Record Store Day occurred on April 19, 2008. Since then, it has grown into the largest annual event supporting independent record stores and music communities over the past decade.
Record Store Day honours the pivotal roles that independent music retailers and their employees play in local cultures and economies. Stores, labels, artists, and customers unite each year to celebrate these specialised businesses and spaces. In the United Kingdom alone, over 270 independent record shops participate across all regions.
While Record Store Day itself happens annually, organisers work diligently year-round shining a light on independent record stores and the exclusive music they introduce through artist and label partnerships.
The next Record Store Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 20, 2024. Support the culture by visiting your local record store, and remember to pick up a FREE copy of Unsigned Collection Vol.1, a compilation album CD of the best new and emerging acts.
