Arthur Black, a Scottish alt-folk singer-songwriter, brings stories of resilience and raw emotion to life through her hauntingly unique sound. Her journey into music began in the most unassuming way - a family friend taught her a few guitar chords, but the impact was profound. Reflecting on that pivotal moment, she recalls, "I was immediately inspired and knew from that moment I wanted to do nothing more than create music. I started writing songs at about 8 years old and singing them in my room."
Growing up immersed in Celtic Folk music, which she describes as deeply influential, Arthur developed her signature style organically. Her sound, coined as "Gothic Psychedelic Folk" by a group of alternative creatives, perfectly encapsulates the moody, ethereal tones and emotional depth she channels in her music.
Arthur's artistry is deeply rooted in her lived experiences, including the grief she faced at a young age. "Trying to understand and compartmentalise the grief I experienced made me want to write. It was my way of breaking down my mind and turning it into something tangible," she shares. A childhood spent on the road, meeting new people, and living an unconventional life further shaped her perspective and inspired her storytelling.
Her creative process is instinctive and spontaneous, driven by raw emotions. "I usually feel something switch in my mind, and I have to quickly grab my guitar. The chords come first, and I tinker around, mumbling a melody until the words come out," she explains. Arthur writes most of her songs in a single sitting, capturing the immediate essence of her emotions.
One song that holds a special place in Arthur’s heart is her upcoming release "Call Me In The Morning." She describes it as a deeply personal piece: "That song was written about a moment that completely changed my life and me as a person. Writing it, recording it, and performing it is the most satisfying feeling." This track is part of her recently recorded EPs, which is set to mark a significant milestone in her career.
Collaboration is another vital element of Arthur’s creative journey. Her band is a dynamic partnership with two solo artists, Zamani Fitri and Kirakira, whose artistry she deeply admires. She treasures these collaborations, saying, "Sharing the stage with them is amazing - they bring their unique energy, and the process feels completely seamless."
Looking ahead, Arthur has an exciting year planned, with multiple releases and live performances on the horizon. Touring remains a significant goal: "I’d love to tour in Europe and America. Being on the road with my people and playing in new cities is the dream for me," she reveals.

Beyond the music, Arthur’s connection with her audience fuels her drive. She hopes her songs offer a sense of understanding and solidarity, saying, "I want my listeners to feel a part of themselves in my music. I hope it makes them feel the same way I feel about the artists I love - it’s about feeling heard."
What many may not know is that Arthur once wrote an entire album while living in hostels and busking to make ends meet. This resilience and authenticity shine through in her work, creating a raw and relatable connection with her fans. "Music is a career, a passion, and a loved hobby for me, so finding balance is hard. I try to step back and just exist as a person sometimes," she admits.
Arthur Black's music is more than just songs; it’s a mirror of life’s unspoken emotions and experiences. Her gothic folk sound speaks to the complexities of existence while inviting listeners to find solace and connection in her art. This is one artist to keep a very close eye on. Her talent, passion, and resilience is sure to make impact on the music industry.
