Timeless Music in 'The Hourglass EP' by Daniel McGuinness

Daniel McGuinness releases The Hourglass EP on QH Sound

Kent-based singer-songwriter Daniel McGuinness has steadily been honing his craft over the past few years with a string of insightful singles. His melodic folk-pop sound and thoughtful lyricism have seen him named a three-time finalist in the UK Songwriting Contest and earned regular airplay on BBC Introducing thanks to DJ Abbie McCarthy. Coffee shop patrons at Caffè Nero locations nationwide may also be familiar with McGuinness' tunes, as "Make Today Your Home" found its way onto the chain's in-store playlist. Live performances followed at London's legendary Troubadour and Pizza Express Live venues.

With the release of his debut EP 'The Hourglass EP' on July 5th, McGuinness arrives at a modern blend of folk, pop and rock sensibilities that feels truly his own. Across five expertly crafted songs, the EP showcases McGuinness' impressive range. He eases in with the bouncy 80s-tinged "Reciprocity" before unfolding his tender side on the introspective post grunge ballad "Gone." Anchor cut "Hourglass" leaves the most indelible impression with its message of making the most of each fleeting moment as another sunset arrives.

In a departure from his usual process, McGuinness opted to record the EP remotely with producer Eliott Glinn instead of in a traditional studio setting. Tracking vocals and guitars from his home studio in Sittingbourne allowed McGuinness the flexibility to experiment and refine his sound at his leisure over extended sessions. The arrangements exhibit an enhanced depth and maturity compared to prior work. For Daniel, the freedom of this organic approach unlocked new creative potential that has him eager to share these tunes with listeners.

With 'The Hourglass EP,' Daniel McGuinness arrives at an artistic crossroads - having come fully into his own after years of honing his craft. His modern folk-pop sound is uniquely his, and this debut suggests there is much more to come from this thoughtful Kent-based singer-songwriter.

"The Hourglass EP" is available to stream and download on all major digital music platforms.
